Kevin Aucoin
Kevin Aucoin started his career at DCYF as a staff attorney in November of 1983 and retired from DCYF as the Deputy Director at the end of July of 2023. During his forty year career at DCYF, Kevin served in many administrative and executive capacities; including Executive Counsel for DCYF, Acting Superintendent for the Training School, Deputy Director and served as the Acting Director of DCYF three times. Kevin's most recent appointment as the Acting Director went from August of 2018 through April of 2023.
During his career, Kevin led the Department's efforts to successfully achieve closure of a 35 year old consent decree in the United States District Court for Rhode Island in 2017. In addition, in his capacity as Executive Counsel, Kevin worked on legislative reform to support permanency for children, youth and families. In his most recent appointment as the Acting Director, Kevin focused his efforts on prevention and promoting safety for children, youth and families. Further, under Kevin's leadership, the Department has successfully reduced the number of children in out of home care as well as reduced the racial and ethnic disproportionality amongst children and families accessing services from DCYF. Lastly, during the COVID crisis, Kevin and his executive management team worked collaboratively with Department's contract providers in an effort to support families and keep children safe.
Throughout his tenure at DCYF, Kevin has served the State in an exemplary manner.
