Senator Alana M. DiMario

Senator Alana DiMario is finishing her second term representing District 36 (Narragansett, North Kingstown, and New Shoreham) in the Rhode Island Senate. Senator DiMario has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for over two decades, working with clients across Rhode Island in community-based settings with a specific focus on postpartum mental health and getting children and families off to the best possible start in life. It was her experiences as a counselor and the desire to bring the voices of the people she has worked with to the State House that prompted Alana to first run for office. Since being elected, Senator DiMario has served on the Health and Human Services Committee and co-chaired the Permanent Joint Legislative Commission on Child Care. For the last two years she has also had the privilege of chairing the Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture.

Throughout her time in the Senate, Alana has sponsored and passed numerous pieces of legislation focused on expanding access to healthcare, most specifically mental health care, developing critical workforce in areas such as child care, increasing livability and accessibility for all Rhode Islanders, and working toward a safe and thriving future for all by combating climate change and ensuring clean air and water for future generations. Senator DiMario has successfully advocated for budget allocations in key areas such as a pilot program to allow for subsidized child care for early childhood educators, a pilot program creating truly statewide public transit access for Rhode Islanders with disabilities, the creation of a cottage food license to allow for culinary entrepreneurs to easily start their businesses from home, and investment in creating a residential treatment facility for adolescent girls.

Senator DiMario looks forward to serving another term in the Rhode Island Senate, where she will continue her focus on supporting families with young children, growing our workforce in key areas, strengthening our healthcare system, and protecting our natural resources. Outside of the Senate, she will continue with her private therapy practice based in North Kingstown and enjoy as much time as she can with her husband and three children at their home in Narragansett.
